California legalised medical marijuana in 1996, and in this November, Alaska, Oregon and the District of Columbia will decide whether they should follow the drug policies in Washington State and Colorado - to legalise recreational marijuana.
The National Human Rights Commission plans to pursue a crimes against humanity case against ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra in connection with his government's war on drugs 11 years ago, in which more than 2,500 drug suspects were killed.
The move is a result of the country’s new criminal law, which took effect Aug. 10. It treats “drug mules” who commit the low-profit, high-risk offense more as vulnerable people exploited by cartels than as hardened criminals.
