NGO Juventas believe that the system of support for young people who are using psychoactive substances is underdeveloped and it is crucial to adjust the services to their needs, to fight and reduce the stigma surrounding young people who need help.
The HNZ apologised to the thousands of people it evicted, and said it was “dismayed at the scale of the human impact of the zero-tolerance policy” and was working to be a more compassionate organisation.
A 2015 report compiled by the Oireachtas Justice Committee recommended that the possession of drugs for personal use be decriminalised, while almost 75% of the population agrees with the availability of cannabis for medicinal purposes.
