L’IDPC appelle l’ASEAN à considérer des stratégies alternatives en matière de drogues

On 25th to 27th September 2012, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD)—the senior official-level forum for discussing drug issues in advance of the ASEAN ministerial-level forum held two times each year—met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

One of the issues on the agenda was a key activity for ASOD this year: the mid-term review of member states’ progress in achieving the goals of the ‘A drug-free ASEAN by 2015’ strategy, which is underpinned by the ASEAN Work Plan on Combating Illicit Drug Production, Trafficking and Use (2009-2015).

The meeting consisted of sessions closed to only the ten ASEAN member states, except for a 2.5 hour open session where speakers from four external organisations were invited to give a 20 minute presentation. Along with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Australian Federal Police, and United States Drug Enforcement Agency, IDPC was invited to speak on drug strategy reviews taking place in different parts of the world.
