UK Advisory Council on Misuse of Drugs call for the 'consideration of Naloxone'
Naloxone should be made more widely available to tackle the high numbers of fatal opioid overdoses in the UK, according to a new report by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).
The UK Government should ease the restrictions on who can be supplied with naloxone and investigate how people supplied with naloxone can be suitably trained to administer it in an emergency and respond to overdoses, it also concludes.
Its report says the evidence shows that naloxone provision reduces rates of drug-related death and also shows that training in all aspects of overdose response is important alongside naloxone provision, and benefits both service users and carers.
