2013 CELAC Summit: Focus on drug trafficking and greater equality

During the Celac summit plenay session, the Heads of State reached a general conclusion on the need to establish agreements on unity and integration, combatting drug trafficking, reducing poverty, increasing equality and providing better education.

In this context, the President of Cuba and recently appointed Pro Tempore President of the CELAC, Raúl Castro, said that “the sovereign equality of the States is one of the principles set forth by the CELAC.” He added that there are several pending topics, such as world hunger, the reconstruction of Haiti, the elimination of illiteracy and the reduction of inequality, as well as the need to make joint efforts against drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking.
