IDPC workshop - Drug policy advocacy in Asia: Aiming for UNGASS 2016

Pre-International Harm Reduction Conference workshop

The majority of the world’s population live in Asia, but only a minority of the civil society voices heard in global drug debates are from the region. Given that Asian countries have some of the most punitive drug policies, alongside seriously inadequate investments in harm reduction, there is a critical need for civil society voices from Asia to be heard in drug policymaking forums, especially the upcoming UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on drugs to be held in New York in April, 2016.

To enhance the strategic engagement of community and civil society representatives from the region in drug policy advocacy, and in key drug policymaking moments such as the UNGASS, the International Drug Policy Consortium will run a two-day workshop on 16 to 17 October 2015, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, before the start of theInternational Harm Reduction Conference, with the title DRUG POLICY ADVOCACY IN ASIA: AIMING FOR UNGASS 2016.

A call for applications to participate in the workshop, along with further details about the agenda and arrangements will be issued in July 2015. However in the meantime, please register your interest to participate with Gloria Lai, senior policy officer, International Drug Policy Consortium at glai@idpc.net.

Please note that IDPC has limited funding available to support the additional accommodation costs that will be incurred by participants, if required, but is not able to cover flight and conference registration costs.
